Where it all started

In 1993, Brad started Ecotech Laboratories, a licensed pharmaceutical producer and supplement designer. Later in 1995 Brad started another company, Pharmessentials, which operated similarly to Ecotech. Both of these companies were later replaced by Cell Biology.

Who are we?

The Protein Factory started its journey as a company called Cell Biology in 2004. Cell Biology specialised in unique, future leading technologies aimed at professional athletes. The official Cell Biology store also opened in Keysborough, in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne. This allowed athletes to not only shop for advanced supplements, but also consult with experts to maximise results during training. Cell Biology also distributed a CD to view products due to the slow nature of the internet at the time.

Our Webstore

Cell Biology's first comprehensive webstore launched in 2006, allowing customers to make online purchases from Cell Biology for the first time. Some products were uniquely packed in metal containers, and others were put in buckets. Affordable prices have always been our priority which is why our protein prices have remained as low as possible, even with inflation. In 2006, our 1kg whey protein concentrate was $50, and just like in 2006, to this day we only increase prices when absolutely necessary.

The Sale

Later in 2006, Cell Biology was sold and continued to operate under different ownership.

2014

Returning to the industry

In 2014 the core team from Cell Biology returned to the supplement industry, working out of Tecoma, Melbourne, with new clients under the name Davinci Principles. New projects included bespoke, small run laboratory manufacturing of high level supplement formulations for elite level athletes, sold wholesale to supplement companies.

Scaling Up

In 2017 Davinci Principles had a name change, now going by Biodome Functional Foods, and had been moved to a larger scale, 320m², facility in Ferntree Gully, taking on more clients and larger batch sizes, focusing more on the wholesale, white labelling, 'behind the scenes' market.

Setting up shop

In 2020, Biodome's first retail store was opened in Knoxfield, Biodome Direct, taking private bookings and consultations from gyms and supplement stores wanting to stock our advanced formulations. Training sessions also took place by our sales reps, teaching stockists about each unique compound in our products.

2021

The Protein Factory

In 2021, The Protein Factory was opened in Ferntree Gully, as well as the online store, allowing direct to customer sales from Biodome for the first time. This allowed us to keep prices as low as possible since there was no longer any middlemen. Customers were now able to purchase our products directly from us, the manufacturers!
